This photoshoot was a little crazy, as photoshoots are in highly populated places. The girls looked stunning, and the weather was perfect.

Two of my favorite people were married yesterday, and I had the privilege of photographing all aspects of the day.

This is my beautiful friend Njavwa! Today held one of those sunny afternoons reminiscent of Summer; we even wore sundresses . Njavwa is leaving soon for a trip to Zambia, so I was happy to spend a few hours with her today and capture her the best way I know how.

Good evening everyone!
Saturday evenings are an important time slot for me. I shut myself in my room, listen to my music I wouldn’t normally listen to with anyone else, watch a foreign film on Netflix, and flip through various blogs and Flickr streams.
I’ve been without my photo editing software for several months, and have recently ordered the newest version of Lightroom that will hopefully arrive very soon. I’ve never wanted to be the type of photographer to use editing software as a crutch, but I’ve found that perfecting one’s editing skills is a vital component in producing a great image. So I have been taking photos lately, but it will take a little while for me to share them with you. I’m now doubting the integrity of the seller on Amazon I ordered it from, but here’s to hoping it arrives within the week!
In other news, I recently turned a whole year older. Here’s a photo of my birthday night below.

Today I went with my mother to euthanize our dog of five years. Over the past few months she hadn’t been herself, and in the last couple of weeks we found she had a very aggressive form of cancer- she had tumors on her chest, and under her front legs.
Five years ago is when we had first heard of our dog, through my Aunt Helen, who’s daughter works at the SPCA. The SPCA has a foster program where people can volunteer to house and care for a dog still waiting for adoption, simply to make the animal more comfortable in a home. My aunt was fostering Nikki, who she claimed would be the perfect dog for us and asked if we would adopt her. We had been wanting a dog for a while, and had dreams of a young pup who we would name Daisy and have for a very long time. So we refused, and didn’t think much of it after that. A few weeks later, my aunt’s home was facing flood warnings and the animals had to be sent off to other homes. A phone call and a long drive later, we had a dog in the house. We said it would only be for a couple of weeks, at least until my aunt could move back into her house. But our few weeks with Nikki turned into months, and then several months. Soon, we found ourselves anamoured by her playful disposition and goofy antics. With the kindest spirit, she would follow us everywhere and love the people we loved as if she belonged to them too.
After over a year we finally adopted her, though she was ours the minute she fell asleep on our floor. We played with her velvety soft ears while we watched TV, and brought her with us when we walked down by the lake. On days when I would sleep in, and my bedroom door was slightly ajar, she would stomp in and sniff my face. Some mornings she would nudge the covers off of me with her nose until I pulled them off myself and got out of bed.
We don’t know much about the family that surrendered her to the SPCA, or how they treated her, but we have our theories. Nikki would never let you touch her right on her nose, without her wincing or pulling away. We think someone may have hit her as discipline, and throughout the years we had her she never grew out of that reflex.
Today at the animal hospital, my mom and I sat there holding her as the drug was injected into her veins and she finally fell peacefully. Her heart stopped, and she was gone. The vet left the room and gave us time to say our goodbyes. The first thing I did was stroke her nose. All the way down, from her forehead to the very tip of her nose I stroked her. Over and over, because I need that peace. I needed to see that she was rid of every pain, every fear, and every need to wince or pull away.
I will not miss everything about her, but I will miss the soul of who she was, her big brown eyes, and droopy grey face.

This was my second product shoot for my sister and her crochet business. My camera battery died partway through the afternoon and we were unable to take all the photos we had wanted to, so watch out for more photos coming very soon! Enjoy.

Check out these photos!
